It is Bathurst race week. The engines are running, the excitement has reached full throttle and the Mountain is calling!
Over the past six weeks, we have checked the rear-view mirror, switched on the headlights, explored navigation settings, selected a gear, taken hold of the wheel and considered how adaptive suspension can help us navigate the bumps.
For the final downloadable in this Bathurst countdown, we are taking a playful little detour.
A conversation that took a very Jenn turn
The first spark for Find Your Inner Driver appeared during one of those conversations that begins sensibly and then quickly takes a very Jenn turn. 😂
Back in April, as a soldier and I got to know each other, we discovered a shared interest in how motorsport, automotive themes and creative approaches could support veterans to develop and sustain hope.
Then I asked them, quite seriously:
“What type of car are you?”
I think I may have shocked them. But the question certainly got them thinking, and it got my curiosity engine revving too.
They said they would need to think about it and get back to me. I didn’t think they would, but sure enough, a few days later, they told me which type of car they identified with, and we laughed together at our responses.
But underneath the humour, the question had opened an unexpectedly rich conversation about identity, movement, values, relationships and how we navigate change.

More than a type of car
That conversation gradually sparked an original collection of Inner Driver archetypes, each grounded in different ways we may approach our career-life journeys.
The Inner Drivers are not existing characters from films or other media. They are also not fixed personality types, diagnostic categories or permanent labels.
Your Inner Driver is not necessarily who you always are. It may be the part of you currently sitting behind the wheel.
One Inner Driver may feel familiar today, while the qualities of another may be needed tomorrow. Different situations, relationships, transitions and road conditions can bring different parts of us forward.
This is not about placing ourselves into one permanent automotive box. You know how I feel about boxes by now. If one appears, we may at least need to stretch it a little. 📦✨
Instead, the Inner Drivers create a playful way to notice what may currently be influencing how we move, pause, decide, respond or relate to others.

Download the Find Your Inner Driver mini card deck
The downloadable Find Your Inner Driver mini card deck features eight of the 18 original Inner Drivers, together with a few selected wild and interactive cards from the broader collection.
It is a printable invitation to meet a selection of the characters and notice which one captures your attention, without needing to analyse yourself into submission or decide that one card defines you forever.

A little team curiosity spark
Have you ever considered what a team’s mix of Inner Drivers might reveal about how it approaches momentum, support, decisions and change?
I will leave that question idling rather than unpacking the metaphor here. It is one of the playful automotive-inspired ideas I use to help teams become curious about how different ways of moving, contributing and responding may appear within their work together. Reach out if you would like to explore this idea further or discuss how my approach could help your team gain clarity and get unstuck.
Who has turned up at the wheel?
The Inner Drivers are designed to spark curiosity rather than provide a final answer. You may recognise yourself immediately, feel drawn towards unexpected qualities or discover that the card you need beside you is very different from the one currently driving.
Notice which character captures your attention and what that response may be inviting you to explore.
Who is driving today?
Who might you need in the passenger seat?
We have now reached the end of our seven-part Bathurst journey, but the automotive curiosity does not have to stop here. The six Drive Your Career capabilities and the Inner Drivers offer different starting points for individuals, teams and career development conversations wherever the road may be leading.

Now, if you need me during Bathurst weekend, I may be slightly distracted by a certain race around a certain Mountain. 😂🏁
