Over 2000 kms (1243 miles) round trip travelled by train and short car trip in 48 hours!!
On Sunday evening, I made a significant journey for an important family reason, travelling through the night in a sleeper cabin before beginning the approx 11.5 hrs return trip this morning. It wasn’t a journey planned in advance, but there was never any question that I would make it.

With unreliable Wi-Fi and no power sockets for charging a laptop or phone on the train, staying constantly connected while travelling in either direction was never really going to be an option. Instead, the journey became an unexpected mini digital break.
I settled into my cabin, and eventually into bed, allowing the gentle rocking of the train to slow me down. On the return journey, I watched the scenery change outside the window, revisited my Angela Merkel detective mystery, attempted some German word searches, opened my notebook to jot down ideas as they came to me, and spent a little time with my mini craft kit.

The experience reminded me that being temporarily disconnected can create space to reconnect with a quieter pace.

Rather than thinking about too many things all at once, I could simply notice what was around me and focus on one small thing at a time, while processing my emotions from the day before…

It was a day of mixed emotions. Sadness at saying the final farewell to my uncle, as he now rests forever more next to my grandparents, but also great joy at being able to spend many hours giving lots of cuddles to my littlest great nephew despite being tired from the travel up

Sometimes, recharging our batteries requires us to stop looking for the nearest power socket and give our own minds a chance to recharge too.
What helps you slow down and give your mind a little breathing space?
